Global shipping firm Maersk announced a change of terminal in Hong Kong for its J Star service, switching from Hong Kong Modern Terminals to Hong Kong International Terminal.
The company said in a statement dated April 14, 2025, that the move is aimed at maintaining the integrity of its service offerings and enhancing them further. The J Star service operates within the Asia Pacific region.
The current rotation of the J Star service includes calls at Tokyo, Kobe, Busan, Shanghai, Yantian, Hong Kong (Modern Terminal), Brisbane, Auckland, Lyttelton, Napier, and Tauranga. The new rotation will see the Hong Kong call shift to International Terminal, with the sequence otherwise remaining the same.
The first vessel scheduled to call at Hong Kong International Terminal under this new arrangement will be the GSL KITHIRA, voyage number 513S, on its southbound journey. The estimated time of arrival (ETA) for this vessel in Hong Kong is April 21, 2025.
Maersk encouraged customers to visit its website or contact their local customer service representatives for any queries regarding the impact of this terminal change on their supply chains.
The company also expressed gratitude for ongoing customer support and reiterated its commitment to adjusting its network to minimize disruptions.
What Our Readers Say: This terminal switch in Hong Kong for Maersk’s J Star service appears to be a routine operational adjustment. While it necessitates awareness from shippers utilizing this route, the unchanged port rotation suggests a relatively seamless transition. The stated aims of maintaining service integrity and enhancing offerings hint at potential long-term benefits, though the immediate impact seems to be a logistical detail for affected supply chains.
